Setting Up Your Trezor

Welcome to the official beginner's guide for Trezor.io/start. Follow these 6 simple steps to secure your crypto assets in minutes.

1

Unbox & Inspect

Before you plug anything in, check the packaging. Your Trezor device should have a security hologram (sticker) over the USB port or on the box opening.

Security Check: If the hologram is broken, peeled, or looks like it has been tampered with, do not use the device. Contact Trezor Support immediately.

2

Install Trezor Suite

Trezor Suite is the safe place to manage your coins. You must download it from the official website.

Download Trezor Suite

Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Always verify the URL is trezor.io.

3

Connect Device

Use the USB cable included in the box to connect your Trezor to your computer.

  • Open the Trezor Suite app you just installed.
  • The app will ask to Install Firmware. Click "Install" to get the latest security updates.
  • Your device will restart once the installation is complete.
4

Create New Wallet

In Trezor Suite, click "Create New Wallet".

Do not choose "Recover Wallet" unless you are restoring an old device. Creating a new wallet generates fresh, secure private keys that have never existed before.

Select "Standard Backup" for the easiest setup.
5

Secure Recovery Seed (Crucial)

This is the most important step.

Your device will display a sequence of words (12 or 24 words). This is your Master Key.

  1. Take the Recovery Seed Cards from the box.
  2. Write down every word in the exact order shown on the screen.
  3. Trezor will ask you to confirm the words to ensure accuracy.
NEVER take a photo of these words.
NEVER type them into a computer or save them in the cloud.
If you lose these words, your money is gone forever.
6

Verify Setup

Almost done! You will be asked to set a PIN Code.

This PIN prevents strangers from physically using your device if they steal it. Choose a strong PIN (4-6 digits recommended).
